VoicePrint's Validity

The VoicePrint model was created to be immediately useful. Talk is the distinctive human capacity, but it's problematic. Part of that problem is because talk comes easily to most of us, we do it readily, so we assume we know how to do it well. But individuals have very different approaches to talk. VoicePrint measures the modes of talk to immediately raise awareness of their outcomes.

Since VoicePrint's inception, we've worked to validate and improve the tools so they can empower more people and more organisations to harness the power of conversation.

The VoicePrint Model

The VoicePrint model was created to provide a clear, accessible and above all practical framework for understanding and using talk to good effect.

It is a competence model. It clarifies the competence of using talk by distinguishing nine different forms that it can take, each of which serves a distinct and potentially useful function.

Independantly validated

The tool has been independently validated by Jane Pollock of the University of Oxford, who confirmed both the distinctiveness of each voice and the reliability of the tool. Despite having just nine questions per voice (a “lean” approach), the questionnaire still meets key psychometric standards, especially in voices with more defined structures.
The Technical Background

VoicePrint creator Alan Robertson

Developed by British psychologist Alan Robertson, VoicePrint is a practical, research-backed tool that makes visible what’s typically invisible: the patterns in our spoken behaviour. It gives individuals and teams a fresh lens to understand how they think, collaborate, and lead—by examining how they talk.

The VoicePrint advisory board

VoicePrint has been rigorously developed, and is trusted by leading organisations around the world. In line with our commitment to ongoing research and development we have established the VoicePrint Advisory Board.

The board is made up of experts in psychology, linguistics, psychometrics, management consulting, executive and team coaching, and leadership development, and acts to support VoicePrint's mission to be the world's most immediately useful personal and organisational development tool.
