Problem
Scott Bader, an employee-owned global manufacturing business, asked NFP People and Talent to support succession planning, by developing the level of senior managers below the existing Exco. The brief was to develop their ability to work together as a team, strengthen their influence, and increase their accountability for the delivery of the strategy. This would enable the Exco to work on the longer term business goals.
Intervention
NFP People and Talent invited each senior manager to complete the VoicePrint Self Perception profile, and explore this in a 1-1 coaching format. The VoicePrint Group Profiler tool was then used to build a composite picture of the senior managers as a team, enabling new insights into the functioning of the team and opportunities to strengthen their individual and shared presence, impact and influence.
Alongside this, the executive team were also using VoicePrint to develop their team cohesion, through improving their ability to constructively challenge one another in order to have more robust conversations on key issues. A combination of self-reflection using the Self Perception report, and shared exploration and learning using the Group Profile were met with great enthusiasm and impact.
Impact
The ExCo found VoicePrint so impactful that it was rolled out further across the organisation
- Each team explored their VoicePrint profile and how it compared to other teams, to understand how they could flex their style to get better outcomes across the organisation
- VoicePrint now provides a common language around communication styles in the business
- VoicePrint has been introduced to the diversity in leadership programme, developing high potential talent globally
- Ratings in communication ability and effectiveness rose by 45%
- More than 80% increase in empowering others by using a coaching style of leadership
Takeaway
VoicePrint was consistently identified by Scott Bader staff as a highlight of the work we were doing together, allowing them to learn a lot about themselves as well as providing them with a common language that has become embedded in the organisation’s DNA.
